Mumbai: Actor Varun Dhawan, who has been repeatedly questioned about 'replacing' superstar Salman Khan in Karan Johar's Shuddhi, asked who said that he is stepping into the Dabangg star's shoes for the film.

"Never was it said and never have I said that I am replacing Salman bhai," Varun told IANS.

Earlier, Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan were supposed to star in the movie, but later Salman Khan was roped in. Then, Karan announced that Varun and Alia Bhatt have been finalized for the film, which will be directed by Karan Malhotra.

Varun, who is sharing the screen with Alia for the third time after their debut in Student Of The Year said that Shuddhi is very special for him and he feels that doing this project would be a "mammoth" task.

"Shuddhi, for me, as a film is very special, being talked about before the release. That's never happened with any film of mine. It's going to be a mammoth task for me," the 28-year-old said.

As of now, Varun is currently busy promoting Remo D'Souza's Any Body can Dance 2, which is releasing on June 19, and features Prabhu Deva and Shraddha Kapoor.
