Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar and the casualty in their Shaadi

Vidya Balan, Farhan Akhtar and the casualty in their Shaadi

Vidya and Farhan spoke about their upcoming film Shaadi Ke Side Effects

Highlights

  • Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar are two very versatile actors and we hear that versatility comes with a degree of temperament. So, when there's a Shaadi of two very temperamental minds, the Side Effects are sure to include a casualty.
  • Vidya, who plays the married and pregnant Trisha in Shaadi Ke Side Effects, promptly told NDTV that the casualty was director Saket Chaudhary who was forced to do many retakes. The reason, in Vidya's own words, was Farhan. She said "With a serious, versatile and temperamental actor like me, Farhan was constantly distracting me. He was messing around, making faces, and cracking jokes."
  • But that seemed to be an advantage according to Farhan who said, "You don't have any time to collect your thoughts when the camera rolls and the director says action and now you have to do it. So you have to be so in the moment that when you watch it on screen it looks like it's happening right now."
  • As a director himself, Farhan, who plays Vidya's hapless husband Anuj in the film, probably knew exactly what to tell an actor, said Vidya.
  • On a more serious note, Vidya said that Farhan, who physically ran in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, sprinted emotionally in Shaadi Ke Side Effects since his character is somewhat of an escapist.
  • Farhan agreed, "Yes, all that preparation for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag came in handy in the film. I'm running away again."
  • When asked the difference between his role as a father in the film and in real life, Farhan said there was a tremendous attachment that he had to his daughter in the film, but that was because the film focused on the changing dynamics between the husband and wife after the birth of their child. "I have experienced fatherhood in real life as well so I know what that feeling is like when you hold your baby in your hands for the first time. That is something I could totally relate to. It makes you feel so responsible, there is a sense of growing up," he said.
  • Shaadi Ke Side Effects aside, Farhan said sister Zoya had managed to get mutliple actors into a single frame in her next film Dil Dhadakne Do because of her powerful scripts.
  • We asked Vidya about the burst of women oriented films in Bollywood like Gulaab Gang and Highway and she agreed that women were assuming centre-stage in all spheres of life. "We are playing very pivotal roles and that's very exciting in terms of content. We are very versatile and simply awesome," she added.
  • So what should people expect when they go to watch Shaadi Ke Side Effects?
  • Farhan: Please turn off your mobile phones.
  • Vidya: Shaadi Ke Side Effects is the kind of film where you will be able to see each other on screen because it's a very relatable film, you will be able to laugh at each other, with each other so please go and have a lovely time watching the film.
