Vikas Bahl Wishes Short Film Anthology Chaar Cutting Well

Vikas Bahl is the director of the award-winning film Queen

Mumbai: Vikas Bahl, director of the National Award-winning film Queen, is happy that the short film format is finding a window in theatres, and he hopes the upcoming film Chaar Cutting, an anthology of four short movies, opens up the market further when it releases this Friday.

"Short films are a stepping stone for any filmmaker in his or her journey. It's great to see that some of them are reaching theatres so that audiences can watch them. I hope Chaar Cutting does well to open the category. I wish the guys very well," Mr Bahl said.

Chaar Cutting is made up of four short stories which capture a wide array of human emotions and genres, including comedy, satire, romance and thriller. The short stories are - Skin Deep, written by Vikramaditya Motwane and directed by Hardik Mehta; Blouse, directed by Vijayeta Kumar; Manila Running, directed by Anuj Gulati and Bawdi, directed by Vivek Soni.

Starring Aditi Vasudev and Naveen Kasturia, Skin Deep is a quirky short film, while Blouse revolves around a man, Shyam, who is determined to get his wife the perfect gift on the festival of 'Karwa Chauth'. Manila Running captures the dilemma faced by its protagonist, Jacques, who travels to Philippines for reasons he prefers to keep personal and ends up in uneasy situations. Bawdi explores the plight of the water-starved villagers in a drought-hit village which is worsened after the arrival of a cola plant.

Mr Bahl said, "While 'Skin Deep' is a complex story about a couple, 'Blouse' is a simple tale of a man getting a gift for the spouse. I am sure the audiences will like them too."
