Kamal Haasan rules out DTH premiere of Vishwaroopam before theatrical release

Kamal Haasan ruled out the premiere of Vishwaroopam on DTH admitting a 'change of mind' on proceeding with his controversial decision.

Actor-Director Kamal Haasan todayvirtually ruled out the premiere of his film Vishwaroopam onDirect-to-Home (DTH) platform ahead of its release intheatres, admitting a 'change of mind' on proceeding with hiscontroversial decision which had met with stiff resistancefrom a section of theatre owners."I have changed my mind on having the premiere (on DTHplatform ahead of releasing it in theatres). I will discuss(with DTH partners) on how close or far to release date (willbe a DTH show)," he told reporters here.
He said he had taken into account suggestions from manyto consider the 'good health' of Tamil cinema industry beforegoing ahead with his decision."Many had requested me to take into consideration thegood health of the industry and proceed with DTH. It is myprimary duty to make it happen," he said after consulting withexhibitors and theatre owners here.
He said talks were on with DTH players on the issue,details of which he declined to divulge. "They have been kindwith me. Will say later when the film will come on DTH," hesaid.Mr Haasan said the film will be released in Tamil and Teluguon January 25 as announced earlier but only talks woulddetermine when it would be released in Hindi.The tech-savvy actor-filmmaker's decision to have apremiere of his much anticipated trilingual action flick onDTH caused ripples in the multi-million rupee Tamil cinemaindustry, with a section of theatre owners deciding to boycottthe film.Meanwhile, Airtel announced crediting back the bookingamount to customers."In line with the postponement of the DTH premiere of themovie Vishwaroopam/Vishwaroop, we have credited back thebooking amount to our customers."We are awaiting confirmation from Rajkamal Films on therelease date of the film on the DTH platform and willcommunicate the details soon," Shashi Arora, CEO-DTH/Media,Bharti Airtel, said in a brief statement.
