A new Dark Knight rises in Hollywood. Actor-director Ben Affleck has been cast as Batman in the sequel to Man Of Steel, The Hollywood Reporter announced. British actor Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman.
The sequel will mark the first time that Superman and Batman, the defenders of Metropolis and Gotham, will appear together on film.
Ben Affleck, who takes over from actor Christian Bale as the caped crusader, has previously had an indirect brush with superhero fame, playing actor George Reeves in the 2006 film Hollywoodland. Mr Reeves starred as Superman in the 1950s American TV series Adventures Of Superman.
Ben Affleck most recently won a slew of awards for directing Oscar-winning movie Argo.
The sequel, which may be called either Superman vs Batman or Batman vs Superman, will likely see Amy Adams and Laurence Fishburne return as journalist Lois Lane and newspaper editor Perry White.
