It was a starry, starry night in Mumbai on Sunday, November 17. Hollywood stars and Indian celebrities wore their Sunday best to the first ever Indian amfAR gala, held at the famous Taj Mahal hotel in Colaba and hosted by celeb couple Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan.
Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone, amfAR's Global Fundraising chair and the evening's co-host, was immaculate and glamorous in a single-shouldered black column dress. Also in black but wearing an edgier and more modern take was Million Dollar Baby star Hilary Swank, making her maiden visit to India.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who arrived on husband Abhishek's arm, was somewhat predictably dressed in a cream and gold outfit by her favourite designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Also wearing Abu-Sandeep, a black dress with a gold bodice, was Madras Cafe actress Nargis Fakhri.
Abu-Sandeep themselves escorted actress Dimple Kapadia, who wore a beautiful traditional sari, to the gala. Columnist and author Shobhaa De was elegant in a green sari with a pink blouse. Nita Ambani stuck to embellished black.
Other guests at the gala included actor Dino Morea and designer Nandita Mahtani, VJ-singer Sophie Choudhry, American hotelier and sometime-actor Vikram Chatwal, models-turned-actresses Lisa Haydon and Sonal Chauhan, and actress Suchitra Pillai.
Abu-Sandeep's creations were presented in the Gold Fashion Show at the gala, along with outfits by Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani. Singer Ke$ha wore an LBD and a gold chain headdress at the amfAR gala.
