Harry Potter Actor David Ryall Dies at 79

London: British actor David Ryall, best known for playing Elphias Doge in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 , died at the age of 79.

He died on Christmas. Sherlock writer and actor Mark Gatiss confirmed the news on social media on Saturday, reports variety.com.



Mr Ryall's daughter and actress Charlie, also confirmed the news by tweeting:



Mr Ryall appeared in various films including City of Ember, Around the World in 80 Days and The Elephant Man.

He replaced Peter Cartwright as Elphias Doge in 2010's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1.

Most recently, he acclaimed recognition on the small screen as Frank - the grandfather who suffers from dementia - in the BBC comedy Outnumbered.

His well-remembered TV roles also include those in The Village and The Singing Detective.

The actor began his career on the stage before becoming popular on British TV.

He is survived by his son - music manager Jonathan Ryall, and two daughters - singer Imogen Ryall and Charlie.
