Other names likely to make it are 12 Years A Slave's Chiwetel Ejiofor and Captain Phillips' Tom Hanks for Best Actor, Gravity's Sandra Bullock and Philomena's Judi Dench for Best Actress, Captain Phillips' Barkhad Abdi and 12 Years A Slave's Michael Fassbender for Best Supporting Actor, and 12 Years A Slave's Lupita Nyong'o and August: Osage County's Julia Roberts for Best Supporting Actress.
The Academy has varied in the number of movies it puts forward for Best Film ever since the category was expanded to 10 to include James Cameron's Avatar in 2010 - nine films were nominated last year and in 2012.
India's Oscar entry, The Good Road, has failed to make the Oscar shortlist.
