A R Rahman features multiple times not just on the Oscar longlist for Original Score, but also for Original Song.
Four songs composed by Rahman - one from The 100 Foot Journey and three from Million Dollar Arm - could make it to the list of final five nominees, to be announced on January 15.
Afreen, from The 100 Foot Journey, is written by Gulzar, who also wrote Rahman's Oscar-winning song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire.
Jai Ho singer Sukhwinder Singh is the voice of one of the three songs on the list from Million Dollar Arm, Makhna. Of the other two, Iggy Azalea performs and writes Million Dollar Dream and KT Tunstall performs and writes We Could be Kings.
Both movies as well as the Rahman-composed animated Tamil film Kochadaiiyaan feature on the list of possible Original Score nominees. Also on the list are Sonu Nigam and Bickram Ghosh with their soundtrack for Jal, a National Award-winning film that has made it to the longlist for Best Picture.
A R Rahman, winner of countless awards at home, went international with Slumdog Millionaire for which he won two Oscars, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and two Grammys. He was nominated at the Oscars again for 127 Hours.
