Pete Doherty charged for cocaine possession in heiress' death

London: Singer Pete Doherty has beencharged with possession of cocaine after the death ofGoldsmith heiress Robin Whitehead from a suspected drugsoverdose.

The 27-year old cousin of socialite Jemima Khan, spentthe last ten days of her life filming a documentary about thedrug-addled rock star before she died earlier this year.

Doherty's best friend, Pete Wolfe wascharged with supplying cocaine in connection with the death ofthe Goldsmith dynasty heiress, while the Libertine star wascharged with possession of the class A drug, reported DailyMail online.

Wolfe, 42, could face life in prison if found guiltyof providing the drug that caused Whitehead's death. Heoriginally insisted that they had not taken anything illegaland had been drinking nothing stronger than Twinings teatogether before she died.

But Wolfe, who dialled 999 after finding her body onJanuary 24 this year, later told police that hours before herdeath, the society beauty had been drinking alcohol and hadtaken Valium, a potentially dangerous combination.

The daughter of 1960s film-maker Peter Whitehead andDido Goldsmith had been staying with Wolfe for a few days.

Dubbed a "superfan", she had been working closely withDoherty on the film about the controversial figure notoriousfor his decadent lifestyle and relationship with supermodelKate Moss.

Her body was found by paramedics answering a 999 callat an East London flat rented by Wolfe. Drugs paraphernaliawas found in the flat.

Babyshambles frontman Doherty had visited the flatboth the day before and the day after the tragedy.

It has been claimed the former Libertines singerattended a party at the flat in Hackney the night before herdeath.
