Anushka Shetty, who is one of the most sought after actresses in the Telugu and Tamil film industries, celebrates her 37th birthday today. She has played some of the most iconic characters onscreen including the role that is going to live on forever - Devasena in SS Rajamouli's Baahubali. On her 37th birthday, here's a look at her journey so far.
Anushka Shetty was born in Mangalore, Karnataka to Prafulla and A N Vittal Shetty. Anushka did her schooling in Bangalore and her Bachelor of Computer Applications at the Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Anushka made her Telugu debut with Puri Jagannadh's 2005 film Super, which also featured Akkineni Nagarjuna and Ayesha Takia. She was nominated for the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
The following year she also featured in SS Rajamouli's film Vikramarkudu, which was a major box office success. She later featured in films like Lakshyam (2007) and Souryam (2008) and Chintakayala Ravi (2008), which were also successful at the box office.
In 2009, Anushka Shetty featured in Arundhati, in which she played dual roles of Jejamma and Arundhati. The film opened to positive reviews from the critics and did remarkably well at the box office. Anushka Shetty's role in Arundhati got her several awards including Filmfare Award for Best Actress - Telugu, Nandi Award, CineMAA Award for Best Actress.
The following year, Anushka Shetty appeared in Vedam, where she portrayed the role of a sex worker. Anushka won her second consecutive Best Actress Award from Filmfare and CineMAA Award for her role in Vedam.
SS Rajamouli's two-part magnum opus Baahubali hit the screens in 2015 and 2017 respectively. In Baahubali: The Beginning, her role was relatively non-glam and she also had to put on weight for her character.
In the second part, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Anushka featured as the younger version of Devasena. Her role in the second part won critical acclaim from all corners.
In 2018, Anushka Shetty featured in horror-thriller Bhaagamathie. She played the role of IAS Chenchala, who is jailed for killing her fiance.
She was last seen in Chiranjeevi's magnum opus Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy as Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi.
Her upcoming film is Nishabdham, which will also release in English as Silence.
