Sushant Singh Rajput was born in 1986 in Patna, Bihar. It was after Sushant's mother's death in 2002 that he moved from Patna to Delhi. He attended St. Karen's High School in Patna and Kulachi Hansraj Model School in New Delhi. He was pursuing his bachelor's from Delhi Technological University. However, Sushant dropped out in the third year to pursue his dream of becoming an actor.

While studying in Delhi Technological University, Sushant Singh Rajput enrolled in Shiamak Davar's dance group and his interest in acting came much later. He soon became a part of Shiamak Davar's standard dance troupe and was chosen to be a part of one of the group's background dancers. He later moved to Mumbai and joined Nadira Babbar's Ekjute theater group.
