Hold your breath. Baahubali: The Conclusion bested Tom Hanks and Emma Watson's The Circle at the box office in USA, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Director S S Rajmouli's VFX film Baahubali 2 released in 450 screens in US on Friday and collected $10.1 million. Baahubali 2 is the third top earning film this weekend after Fate of the Furious and How to Be a Latin Lover. Fate of the Furious, starring Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson, released three weeks ago and continues to dominate the US box office. Mexican star Eugenio Derbez and Salma Hayek's How to Be a Latin Lover co-released with Baahubali 2 and The Circle. Fate Of The Furious made $19.4 million while How to Be A Latin Lover earned $12 million. The Circle which released in over 3, 000 screens made $9.3 million.
The Circle's defeat at the box office has surprised trade analysts and publications abroad. "No one expected either Baahubali 2 or How to Be a Latin Lover to do laps around The Circle, which stars Watson - who is coming off the blockbuster success of Beauty and the Beast - alongside Tom Hanks," writes Pamela McClintock of The Hollywood Reporter. Meanwhile, Vanity's Emma Stefansky described Baahubali 2's win as "perhaps the most surprising over-performance of the weekend."
Baahubali 2 released two years after the first part of S S Rajamouli's magnum opus with immense enthusiasm. The film got a spectacular over Rs 100 crore start on the first day and had collected over Rs 200 crore by Saturday in India.
Baahubali 2 stars Prabhas as Amarendra and Mahendra Baahubali while Rana Daggubati plays antagonist. Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj had pivotal roles in the film.
