New Delhi: Kannada film star Darshan has been refused bail. He was arrested on Friday (September 9, 2011) after he allegedly pulled a gun on his wife, but has been in hospital since Friday itself for respiratory problems.

Darshan's wife, Vijayalakshmi, had originally accused him of domestic violence and torture; she said he used to burn her with cigarette stubs. However, later she tried to withdraw her police complaint. But the case against the actor, who starred in blockbusters like Dhruva and Kariya is still being investigated by the Bangalore police.

Prominent film industry representatives have tried to mediate between the couple, who married seven years ago.

The Kannada Film Producers' Association has chosen to ban for three years an actor named Nikita Thukral, who has co-stared with Darshan in several films. She was allegedly having an affair with Darshan.

In a statement yesterday, the producers said, "Since Vijayalakshmi has given a complaint naming the actress responsible for the storm in her marital life, we have taken a decision to ban the actress for three years."
