Highlights

  • Junior NTR-starrer Telugu action-drama Ramayya Vasthavayya (RV), which released on Friday, was panned by critics but that didn't stop the film from collecting a whopping Rs 8.7 crore on the opening day in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The film, produced by Dil Raju, was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 40 crore.
  • "The critics panned the film, but RV has opened to a flying start in Andhra Pradesh. It has raked in Rs.8.7 crore on release day. But it's the opening weekend numbers that will decide the fate of the film at the box-office," trade analyst Trinath told IANS.
  • "The early estimates of the second day indicate that there might be at least a 50 percent drop in the overall collection, which is not good news. The film was bound to take a bumper opening because it features NTR," he added.
  • Directed by Harish Shankar, RV also features Shruti Haasan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu in important roles.
  • The film has received flak from audiences and critics alike for its extremely gory second half, which was equally melodramatic. Following the initial response, the makers have now trimmed the film by ten minutes.
  • "Nearly ten minutes from the film have been trimmed, and now the new version is playing in theatres. The highly melodramatic second half with extended climax had an adverse effect on audiences. Therefore, the makers decided to shorten it," said Trinath.
