60th National Awards

A pall of gloom descended on the eastern metropolis on Thursday as it woke up to a morning shocker - the sudden demise of National Award winning filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh following a cardiac arrest.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Friday said the government has instituted a special "Centenary Award" to honour individuals or films which spark a "paradigm change".

Pran could not make it to the 60th National Film Awards ceremony on Friday here to receive Dadasaheb Phalke honour for health reasons.
