"In Chauranga, there were certain scenes that they wanted to be deleted. There was a love making scene. Then they objected to the use of cuss words and a scene involving a dalit boy being tormented. They wanted us to delete all of this," the director told PTI

"They have asked us to edit parts of certain scenes, remove long shot from one and close up from another. It is like you are showing a pilot sitting in the cockpit, how to fly the plane, but you are asked not to show the take-off. It is weird because the film deals with caste atrocities," said Onir

"There is a great amount of acceptance in the audiences now. Films like Talvar, Killa and Masaan have done well despite not being mainstream. They have received great response. I think it is a very good time to release a film like Chauranga because the audience is opening to stories like these," said Onir

Filmmaker Onir says there is no dearth of talented writers but filmmakers like to play it safe and choose to go with tried-and-tested stories.
