Ghulam Ali Ghar Wapsi

The music launch of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali-starrer 'Ghar Wapsi' was cancelled by a Delhi hotel today allegedly because it was threatened by Bajrang Dal and the Hindu Sena against organizing it.

"Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena was very categoric when he said that he would not allow Ghulam Ali saab on Indian soil and would oppose it. Shiv Sena has certain strength in the capital and we want to ensure that Ghulam Ali saab is safe and secure," Suhaib Ilyasi said in an official statement

Ghulam Ali, whose concerts in Mumbai and Pune were called off after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt his live performances last year, will also attend the music launch of Ghar Wapsi on March 5 in Delhi. He will be making his acting debut with the Hindi feature film Ghar Wapsi

"The event was going to happen on Friday at The Club in Andheri but now it is not happening. It has been cancelled," TV show host-turned-filmmaker Suhaib Ilyasi said. Ghulam Ali was scheduled to attend the music launch of Ghar Wapsi, a movie directed by Mr Ilyasi in which the 75-year-old singer has sung a patriotic song and also acted

"I will request the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government to provide protection to Ghulam Ali saab during his stay in Mumbai. There is a threat to Ali saab by Shiv Sena. They did not allow him to perform in India last year," said the director of Ghar Wapsi, which marks Ghulam Ali's acting debut

"We never discussed anything related to this project with anyone because we know that the concept of Ghar Wapsi can bring in lot of controversies in the minds of many people. We don't want to create any controversy," said Suhaib Ilyasi, best remembered as the host of crime series India's Most Wanted

Ghulam Ali is currently in New Delhi to dub his portion of Ghar Wapsi. "If I keep on doing this for three to four more days, I can be a (professional) actor. I guess singing is very easy," Ghulam Ali, who seemed to have a childlike excitement during the dubbing, quipped during an interaction
