The case dates back to 2014 when Ravi Rathinam accused the producers of plagiarism and alleged that they had 'stolen' the story from his film Mullai Vanam 999. The Madras High Court had allowed the release of the film after collecting a deposit of 5 crores and a separate bank guarantee for a similar amount
A court in Madurai has issued summons to filmstar Rajinikanth and others asking them to appear before it on March 8 in connection with a suit filed against his film Lingaa. The Judge said the Madras High Court had directed him to complete the trial in the case within April 30 and hence asked them to appear before his court
The grand opening of actor Ajith's film Vedalam is being seen as a new high at the Tamil box office. Experts say it's the biggest ever opening, beating even superstar Rajinikanth's Lingaa that clocked Rs 13 crores last year. Many now look at Thala, as he's fondly called, as the next superstar in the making
Unlike Bollywood movies, it is not so easy for Tamil movies to collect Rs 100 crores. So far, only 10 Tamil movies have managed to reach the milestone worldwide at the box office.
The film's producer is reportedly planning to distribute the film free of cost so that distributors and theatre owners can recover the losses they incurred from Lingaa
Srinivasan will reportedly play the lead role in the spoof
"Distributors who had purchased the movie on minimum guarantee have not been compensated. Hence, we want Rajinikanth sir to intervene and settle this issue within a week, failing which we will again protest in front of his house," claimed distributor Singaravelan
Shooting for the film will begin in Malaysia in August
"Ranjith's project with Rajinikanth is finalized. The film will be produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu. The rest of the cast will be finalized soon," a source revealed
A petitioner contended that Lingaa was given tax exemption only due to Rajnikanth's 'influence'
This project has been put on hold until the Lingaa issue with the distributors is resolved
"It's unethical to harass Rajinikanth sir and producer Venkatesh. This matter has to be resolved amicably," the Tamil Nadu Film Producers Council said in a statement
