"I'm thrilled to have been invited to head the international jury for MAMI and look forward to celebrating the work of a diverse array of filmmakers with energetic, engaged audiences in the dynamic city of Mumbai," said Ava Duvernay, whose film Selma, based on the life of Martin Luther King Jr, was nominated for the Oscars in 2015
Irrfan's Paan Singh Tomar and The Lunchbox were two films that were in the forefront of being chosen as India's Oscar entry, but ultimately Barfi! and The Good Road were selected by a jury appointed by the Film Federation of India
The Film Federation of India has distanced itself from disgruntled former jury member Rahul Rawail, who accused Oscar jury head Amol Palekar of being 'manipulative' and obnoxious'. "What we would have appreciated is a situation where he could have spoken to the FFI President and other senior officials before going to the media"
"Our chairman Amol Palekar had only one agenda right from the beginning that Court shouldn't come. He was very adamant that somehow Court should be removed. I don't know the reason behind this but it is true. You can ask anyone else in the jury about it and they'll say that it is correct," said Mr Rawail
