The shortlisted films were narrowed down from 124 eligible entries after a vote by the Ampas documentary branch. Another vote will trim the list to the final five nominations and the winner will be announced at the Oscars ceremony on February 28
The list includes Colombia's El Abrazo de la Serpiente (Embrace of the Serpent), directed by Ciro Guerra; France's Mustang, directed by Deniz Gamze Erguven; Germany's Oscar entry Im Labyrinth des Schweigens (Labyrinth of Lies), directed by Giulio Ricciarelli

Irrfan's Paan Singh Tomar and The Lunchbox were two films that were in the forefront of being chosen as India's Oscar entry, but ultimately Barfi! and The Good Road were selected by a jury appointed by the Film Federation of India
The Film Federation of India has distanced itself from disgruntled former jury member Rahul Rawail, who accused Oscar jury head Amol Palekar of being 'manipulative' and obnoxious'. "What we would have appreciated is a situation where he could have spoken to the FFI President and other senior officials before going to the media"
"I feel very fortunate and grateful for the way it (Court) has been received. We did not make the movie with that many expectations. We were not sure what will happen but we were surprised constantly. It is my debut film so it is a great feeling," said Chaitanya

Court also won the Best Picture at the National Film awards this year, besides winning 17 international honours after its premiere at the Venice International Film Festival in 2014
Mr Palekar, 70, said via phone, "All of us including him (Rahul Rawail) have signed an undertaking with the Film Federation of India (FFI). We are sworn to be secretive and I will not breach it till I get permission to open my mouth. Regarding his allegations, on a personal level I choose not to respond to his allegations"
