Satyajit Ray's The Apu Trilogy, based on Bibhutibhushan Bandopadhyay's novels, instantly placed Mr Ray and Indian cinema on the world map

The Apu Trilogy depicts the life of Apu in Pather Panchali (1955), Aparajito(1956), and Apur Sansar (1959). A masterpiece that realistically and placidly portrays Indian society - Satyajit Ray is known as a master of Asian film as well as the father of Indian cinema, a statement said
"Actually I copy him. You won't notice what I copy but I know what I am copying. I do it in whatever film I do. It is the Bible of my life," Mr Sircar said at an event in Kolkata which was organised to celebrate 60 years of the release of Pather Panchali
