Superstar Rajiikanth on Tuesday announced that he will not be making his much-anticipated political debut, after promising "a wonder and miracle" in the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.

Superstar Rajinikanth today hinted at a rethink on joining electoral politics and said he would announce his stand at an "appropriate time" amid speculation triggered by a letter that many believed was written by him and leaked. "The letter is not mine but the information on my health and doctors' advice is true," Rajinikanth said in a statement.

Four days after he pulled out of a trip to handover houses to displaced Sri Lankan Tamils, superstar Rajinikanth has reached out to Tamils across the Palk Strait to make up for his absence. In the 1980 letter, addressed to a 'Piousji' for a magazine column called 'Khaas Baat', Ms Jayalalithaa clarified that she wasn't "struggling to stage a comeback" and had in fact turned down an offer to work with superstar Rajinikanth.

Here's a part of the letter's contents: "I returned to India after hearing the huge success of Kabali and witnessed it in person after coming here and am thrilled. So, heartfelt thanks the crew, director, producer, co-actors, fans, public, youth, women, media friends, theatre owners."

Superstar Rajinikanth, who is in Singapore for medical treatment, wrote a letter to his fans to thank them for their prayers and good wishes.
