Sridevi, known for films like Himmatwala, Mr India, Lamhe, Sadma and Khuda Gawah and English Vinglish, was last seen in the Tamil film Puli

"We were paying her as per the agreement she had signed at the beginning of the film. However, in the final stages of production, Sridevi's husband Boney Kapoor asked us to pay her extra as we were planning to release the film in other languages too," the producers claimed.

"I should say I'm amazed with Puli. The spectacular sets and the grand scale on which the film has been made, is at par with Hollywood standards," Rajinikanth said in a statement. He also described Vijay as a "perfect treat for family and kids". Puli also stars Sridevi, Shruti Haasan and Hansika Motwani

From Bollywood Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and amy jackson's Singh is Bliing will brighten up the screen. Irrfan and Konkona Sen Sharma's Talvar will also release today. Hollywood will be represented by The Martian starring Matt Damon. Southern cinema's big release is Vijay and Sridevi's Puli

The release of Puli had hit a roadblock after early morning shows and overseas premieres of the film were cancelled due to payment issues. However, the issues are now resolved and the film has released in India and abroad. Hansika Motwani tweeted: "All issues sorted. It's time to Roar. It's time for #Puli. it's #showtime"

The other factor that makes Puli special for her, was sharing screen space with Sridevi. "The first film I saw of Sridevi ma'am was Sadma opposite Kamal Haasan, when I was 10 years old. I was too young to understand much and was crying my lungs out, moved by her performance," said Hansika

"He watched the film at NFDC's (National Film Development Corporation) preview theatre. His children and wife loved the film and Vijay hopes that his fans will like it too," a source from the theatre told IANS. The film also stars Sridevi, Hansika Motwani, Shruti Haasan and Sudeep in important roles

"Tamil cinema was known for some of the best fantasy films. I don't understand why we've stopped making them. In the last few years, Telugu filmdom explored this genre quite well. I hope Puli gives Tamil filmmakers the confidence to make more such films," said Chimbu Deven, director of Sridevi's Puli

Sridevi is so spectacular she steals the show in this trailer. Of her role, Sridevi had said, "It's a character with multiple layers. I'm not playing a typical queen we read in fairy tales." This is Sridevi's comeback Tamil film, she was last seen in 1986 movie Naan Adimai Illai

"To be treated like a queen even off the sets was the best part of this role. It felt special, respected and very sweet," said Sridevi. She also talked about her role in the film, "This is the kind of the role you get once in a lifetime. It excited me so much that I jumped at the opportunity without much contemplation"
