Irrfan's Paan Singh Tomar and The Lunchbox were two films that were in the forefront of being chosen as India's Oscar entry, but ultimately Barfi! and The Good Road were selected by a jury appointed by the Film Federation of India

Ritesh Batra, director of the critically acclaimed The Lunchbox would like Indian filmmakers to "reach out with our films to the world" as India has a wealth of stories to tell.
Nominations for the 59th Filmfare Awards have been announced and, predictably, the list veers towards popular choices. Critically acclaimed films like Lootera and The Lunchbox are conspicuous by their absence from the Best Film and Best Director categories, and scoop just one acting nomination each. Oscar entry The Good Road is missing entirely.
