Author Shobhaa De says that playing national anthem in cinema halls before a movie amounts to "force-feeding patriotism". "Packaging it as enforced patriortism is demeaning the status of the National Anthem in a movie theatre. I have seen a lot of disrespect being shown because people just think of it as a nuisance... they'll continue to eat their popcorn and continue to chat they'll show utter disrespect," she said.
